Whaling Worries

The recent events in the Antarctic Ocean between the Sea Shepherd and a Japanese whaling ship has again got the media's attention and highlighted the ongoing battle between whaling conservationists and whaling researchers (why they have to kill these majestic creatures for research I am not sure).

As a person who loves to get out on the water and sail from time to time and who can appreciate some of the dangers of being at sea, I find it hard to condone the some of the actions of both parties in this battle and I do wonder if there can be a more effective and safer way to stop whaling and reach a sustainable outcome.

If you would like to find out more about whale conservation we recommend the books Harpoon - Into the Heart of Whaling by Andrew Darby, The Whale Warriors by Peter Heller and The Empty Ocean by Richard Ellis.
