Time to Phase Out Greenhouse Intensive Hot Water Heaters

During February 2010 the Australian Government will be hosting public consultation meetings on a regulation impact statement for the phase-out of greenhouse intensive water heaters.

In 2008 water heating accounted for approximately 22% of household energy usage making it one of the larger contributors to energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions in Australia. The aim of the regulation impact statement for the phase-out of greenhouse intensive water heaters is to establish regulation to phase-out the use of high energy consuming hot water heaters in households across Australia and therefore reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

If you are interested in saving energy consumption in your home, and will not be in a position to replace your hot water heater, Sustainable Insight has a number of sustainable housing books which offer a number of energy and water saving initiatives for you to implement.
