According to research company IBIS World organic farming will be one of the top 10 growth industries for 2010.
Unfortunately when an industry, like organic farming, is promoted quite publicly as the next best thing (I have seen this news on all the main news programs and business newspapers and email mailing lists) it often attracts the attention of unscrupulous opportunists. So what can you do .... ?
One of the important ways to ensure that you are getting the real deal (that is real organic produce) is to ensure that the produce has been certified by an independent body. One organisation that we believe that does a great job in ensuring that produce certified by them is true are our friends at Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA). BFA runs the Australia Certified Organic program.
The next best step is to grow your own food. That way you can have a better understanding of the environment that your food has been grown in. To educate yourself about how to grown your food organically, Sustainable Insight has a number of organic gardening books which can help guide you. Easy Organic Gardening and Moon Planting by Lyn Bagnell and Organic Gardening in Australia are two of our favourites and top sellers.
